Anthropologie's Dog Month

This one is a little late, since tomorrow is the last day of September, but, hey, better late than never! Anthropologie is a great place for fabulous women's clothing and awesome, kistchy housewares. But... This month it's all about the dogs. They are having a dog food drive in their store at Southpark Mall and also similar events at their store throughout the country. Plus, on their Facebook page, all month they have been profiling different Anthropologie employees and their dogs. So, just in case anyone is looking for an excuse to go buy some great clothes tomorrow, you can always say that you were going to drop off a food donation and just happened to buy a great shirt while you were there!

Only a few more days left...

Have you been a Hero for Hounds4Heroes this month? If not, you still have a few days. If you have, thanks! Just a reminder, the whole month of September we are collecting rawhide bones, toys and dog dishes for Hounds4Heroes. These items will go in their adoption kits for their new adoptees. The box in the lobby is getting very full and we thank you very much! Turbo here is urging you to help the pups who are getting their forever homes and their new families. Won't you be a hero?

Dinner out with your pup? OK in NC!

We know... We know... You spend all day at work, your pup is at All Wags and at the end of the day you really want to just go out to dinner, but you also want to spend time with you pup. What to do? Well, you're in luck. Earlier this month North Carolina public health ruled to allow dogs to eat in outdoor eating areas with their owners. The restaurant still has the right to refuse, but they are allowed to allow you. Keep these rules in mind:

  • Only dogs and cats are allowed (birds, hamsters, etc. have to stay at home)
  • Your pup or kitty must be leashed
  • Your pet can't come in contact with the food or anyone preparing the food
  • And... your pet can't come inside, even if that's the only way to get to the outside
Let's all also work together to keep this allowed by remembering our common courtesy. You know if your pup is a good candidate for sitting outside at a restaurant or not. Some pups get nervous, don't like crowds, etc. If you take your pup to a restaurant and enjoy some time al fresco, send those photos along, we'd love to see!

One Size Fits All

The beds at All Wags come in one size, so the pups have to make do and everyone seems to be able to make themselves comfortable. From the smallest little maltese to Hunter here who is a Great Dane, all of the pups enjoy snoozing on the dog beds. It took Hunter a little bit of maneuvering and adjusting but he has snuggled up quite nicely and is a very content fast asleep. You know what they say, let sleeping dogs lie, and we will be doing just that for Mr. Hunter and let him enjoy his fabulous nap!

Happy 1st Birthday to Kaiah!

Guess who is turning 1 today? Little baby Kaiah! Can you even believe it? She's such a big girl! Kaiah has really become the All Wags mascot over this past year and we hope you all have enjoyed watching her grow up and will continue watching her grow up as she hangs out at All Wags. She loves being around the pups and loves going back in the back and seeing them. I mean, how could she not, pups are such a huge part of her sweet little life. Check out those gorgeous eyes on the beautiful little girl in pink, perfect! The All Wags family is so happy to have her be a part of it! Be sure to wish Miss Kaiah a very happy birthday!

It's a start!

Monday night our city leaders made some changes that are a step in the right direction for all of the pups out there who are tethered outdoors. Pups who are tethered must now be on a chain that is at least ten feet long. It is now illegal to tether a dog who is younger than four months old. And, the tethered dogs must have easy access to food, water and shelter. It doesn't seem like much, but at least it's a start. The Coalition to Unchain Dogs has been helping to get these rules changed and is happy for this little victory, but there is a lot more to do. Most dogs who are chained, are chained 24/7 and this tends to make dogs more aggressive and is not good for a pup's health. Of course, all of the All Wags puppy parents know this, but there are many who don't. Want to help? Contact the Coalition to Unchain Dogs. They need people to help build fences and help them at events. We may not be able to help every pup, but we can help some and it will make a difference to those pups!

1st Spay/Neuter Transport

So, why does Bailey have such a huge smile? Well, that would be because we helped 7 very lucky pups get spayed/neutered! The first set of pups was picked up from All Wags yesterday morning and transported to the SNIP clinic and their parents were able to pick them up this morning. All 7 pups did fabulous and they are happy and just without a few parts. That's 7 pups who won't be out there creating more pups who need homes, 7 pups who won't be more apt to escape their yards, 7 pups who will be at a lower risk for certain health problems, 7 pups who's behavior will be easier to manage... I'm sure you get the picture, 7 very lucky pups who's lives have been changed for the better. We are so thankful to SNIP for being able to partner with them!

Who's got Team Spirit!

Does your pup have team spirit? Football season is upon us. Are you are your pup ready? Does your pup have gear for your favorite college or NFL team? We would love to see those photos! Check out Miss Ella... Her Daddy loves the Steelers and so does she. They weren't on TV here today, so we'll forgive her for sleeping through the game, but she would have been cheering in her own way if she could have seen it today! Send your photos to Ella's mama, Kelly, and she will be sure to get the photos up on All Wags' Facebook page to show off how fab they look in their gear!

September Issue of the All Wags Newsletter

With the long weekend coming up, we know that you are looking for some light reading material. So, just in time, the September Issue of the All Wags Newsletter has been posted to our website. There is a great article about ways to calm down your anxious pup and with the storms from Hurricane Earl coming, it's pretty timely. For the first time ever, we have a dog family of the month. Be sure to read all about the fabulous four-some! You'll want to check out the coupon and the dog treat recipe. This month's recipe is pretty easy, so make some up for an extra special long weekend treat for your pups. Also, congratulations to Kenan and Scarlet's parents and be sure to check out their fabulous wedding favors. We know you will love them! Happy reading and happy September!

Be a Hero for Hounds4Heroes Donation Drive

In the spirit of remembering and honoring September 11th, All Wags is going to do a very special donation drive for Hounds4Heroes. What is Hounds4Heroes, you may add. Hounds4Heroes is a non-profit organization that provides adopted pups to our nation's military vets. Studies have shown that a pet can greatly reduce stress and provide positive effects emotionally. We all know that there are many, many homeless pets, so how great of them to put the two together. Hounds4Heroes is in need of dog toys, dog bowls and rawhide bones to put in their adoption packs that go along with each pup to their new home. We will have a barrel in our lobby the entire month of September, so bring in those donations! If you want more info about Hounds4Heroes, please check out their website. We're so thankful for all that they do for the vets and the pups!
